Web Dynpro for ABAP

Web Dynpro for ABAP

Author(s): Ulli Hoffmann

Number of pages: 351

If you,are new to Web Dynpro for ABAP and know absolutely nothing about it then this book has my highest recommendations to you. More or less from start to end it is focused on hands-on tutorials for you to follow. When I ordered it, I was a bit skeptical; it might just be one more theory-loaded book without exercises. But no…

It starts out by explaining the fundamentals combined with some history of dynpro programming, from Screen Painter to Web Dynpro. This introduction gives a good starting point. Very soon though, you get started with locating the Web Dynpro Explorer which is integrated into the Workbench (SE80). You start with making your very first “HelloWorld” program, just to get a feel for it.

From page 95, you get to program sample application and each UI element is being presented as you work your way through the tutorial. You have to learn to use the classes that is used for programming Web Dynpro’s and how to use the standard methods supplied with the classes. It is all there and it is well explained to newcomers.

The MVC structured way of programming is also fully covered where you learn to develop with the separate Presentation, Logic and Data Layers. A huge chapter about Dynamic Programming is also included and the tutorials are based on what you have already made (it mainly shows how to maintain your Web Dynpro’s after initial development).

ALV integration into Web Dynpro is also covered in the end of the book and this is as the rest of it, very good tutorials combined with an appropiate explanation to give the full picture. It is the best tutorial that I have seen so far.

PS ! You can always download your SAP Netweaver for ABAP from SDN (See the Links section to the right).
